AUDEW Solar Auto Darkening Welding Helmet Review

When I decided to open my own metal shop, I never thought I would get as much business as I currently have. When I first started, I figured that I would just do a lot of my own projects and then work on some professional pieces on the side.

Thankfully, however, what started as a side business has now become a full-time gig, and I’m working and welding all the time now. Thus, to help me get the most out of my work, I need a welding helmet that can keep up with me.

I’ve used a variety of helmets over the years, but recently I came across the AUDEW Auto Darkening Helmet. I have to say that so far I am very impressed with the results. If you want a helmet that can handle your workload with ease, then this is the model for you.

Auto Darkening Helmets

When I first started out as a welder, I got a cheap fixed shade model. Although that particular helmet worked out fine for most of the jobs I was doing, I knew that I needed something with more power if I was ever going to get serious about welding as a profession.

Auto darkening helmets are by far more superior since they continuously adjust the shade to match whatever you’re doing. Overall, I have to say that this particular model has held up remarkably well, even with just two sensors working.

Large Viewing Screen

One of the biggest downsides I found with auto darkening helmets is that the view screen is usually much smaller. Having used a fixed shade helmet I was expecting a large window, but I was in for a big surprise.

Thankfully, this model has a viewing area that is sufficient for my needs. It took a little bit of adjustment on my end to get used to a smaller window, but overall I’ve found that this size is perfect for most jobs.

FAQs

Q: Can you replace the batteries on this helmet?

A: Unfortunately, you cannot. If they die on you, you have to get a whole other helmet.

Q: Can you wear a hard hat with this?

A: I don’t believe you can. The headband is adjustable, but it’s not quite big enough for hard hats I’m afraid.

Q: Does it come in any other design?

A: I don’t believe that it does.

Final Verdict

Overall, I have to say that I am very pleased with this helmet. I do wish that you could replace the batteries without having to get a whole new unit, but otherwise, I’ve found that the auto darkening function works great (even with just two sensors), and the helmet feels very comfortable while I’m using it.

I would highly recommend this to both casual or professional welders.
